    What Is PHA in Skincare?

PHAs, or polyhydroxy acids, are gentle exfoliating acids used in skincare to help smooth texture, brighten dullness, and support a fresh, hydrated-looking glow. They are often compared to AHAs, but PHAs have a larger molecular structure, which means they work more gradually on the skin’s surface.

Because of this slower, surface-level exfoliation, PHAs are often a beautiful choice for sensitive, dry, mature, or easily irritated skin — especially if traditional exfoliating acids feel too strong.

    Why choose PHA skincare?

    • Gently exfoliates the skin’s surface
    • Helps improve the look of dullness and uneven texture
    • Supports smoother, softer, more radiant-looking skin
    • Often better tolerated by sensitive or dry skin than stronger acids
    • Can help support hydration while refining the look of skin

    PHA vs AHA vs BHA

AHAs, like glycolic and lactic acid, are water-soluble exfoliating acids often used for glow, texture, and visible signs of aging. BHAs, like salicylic acid, are oil-soluble and commonly used for pores, congestion, and breakout-prone skin. PHAs, like gluconolactone and lactobionic acid, offer a gentler approach to exfoliation and are often chosen for sensitive or moisture-depleted skin.

    Who are PHAs best for?

PHA skincare can be a great fit for anyone who wants smoother, brighter-looking skin without the intensity of stronger exfoliating acids. It is especially useful for dry, sensitive, mature, or reactive skin types, or for those who are new to exfoliation.

As with any exfoliant, start slowly and use SPF during the day. If your skin is very sensitive, recently treated, or irritated, introduce PHA products gradually.
